Our Awesome God is the God of Truth (Deut. 32:1-4)
Our Awesome God
God is Truth
Deuteronomy 32:1-4
INTRODUCTION:
Hopefully without reopening old wounds, I want to tell you a realization I got from our experience with Covid-19 back in 2020. And it’s probably not what you are thinking…
Consider some of the questions and confusion that we experienced during that 24-month experience:
How contagious is Covid-19?
How long is the virus still contagious on surfaces?
How helpful are the masks?
How helpful is the vaccine?
Am I better off getting the virus and letting my own immune system fight it off?
What was the Truth? What is the Truth?
Don’t we often ask that question, at least in our minds…?
Is coffee good for you or not? What is the Truth?
Is salt good for you or not? What is the Truth?
Are carbohydrates good for you or not? What is the Truth?
Are eggs good for you or not? What is the Truth?
What type of milk should we drink? Skim milk? 1%? Whole milk? Almond milk? What is the Truth?
Confusion. That’s what it is. It seems like with so many things, it really all depends on who you talk to and which dietician or medical authority or TED talk you want to listen to. Where do you want to put your trust?
The realization that Covid-19 gave me is this… in the matter of religious questions and what we need to believe about Christianity, confusion is the order of the day. The existence of the various denominations around the world does not help matters. Is Christianity really just a matter of personal preference? What is the Truth? In all the questions that relate to Christianity, what is the Truth?
In our study of our “Awesome God,” the aspect of His nature that I want us to consider this morning is that God is Truth.
THE DEFINITION:
First, let’s get an important definition in front of us. What is “Truth?”
Truth is “that which is consistent with fact or reality.” If I hold up my left hand, I might suggest that this is reality. Then if I hold up my right hand so that it matches, is consistent with, my left hand, then the right hand is “truth.” It is that which is consistent with reality. I’m not going to talk about the issue of transgenderism in this lesson, but it does illustrate my point. There is no such thing as a “non-binary” gender. The fact of science teaches us that in every cell of our body, you and I are either male or female. You cannot choose your gender. It is a biological reality. So to say that there are only two genders is Truth. It is that which corresponds to reality.
GOD IS TRUTH:
God, because of Who He is, is the Ultimate Source of Truth. He is the Ultimate Source of Reality. If we want to know Truth, we have to go to God and listen to Him. If we are looking at the world from God’s perspective, then we are looking at the world through the lens or perspective of Truth. God’s view of the world is what truly conforms to reality.
Listen to a few Bible verses:
Deuteronomy 32:4
Psalm 31:5; 33:4 - “For the word of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness.”
JESUS IS TRUTH:
Because Jesus is God in the flesh, then Jesus is also, by nature, Truth. He said as much in John 14:6.
Jesus promised to send the “Spirit of Truth” to the apostles so that mankind can know Truth (John 15:26).
Because Jesus is Truth, we can trust His promises: Psalm 89:35 - “Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.”
We can be assured of our salvation: 2 Tim. 2:13.
We are saved by Truth: Ephesians 1:13.
We are sanctified by Truth: 2 Thess. 2:13.
We are liberated by Truth: John 8:32.
WE MUST TEACH AND DEFEND TRUTH:
We should always speak the truth (Eph. 4:25).
We should walk in truth: Psalm 86:11 - “Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.”
We should study Truth: 2 Tim. 2:15.
We should worship God in Truth: John 4:24.
We should uphold Truth: 1 Tim. 3:15.
Take home message: When the church stands for truth, we see a reflection of God's unwavering nature.
